Sohmer serial number chart

Each row shows the first serial number made in that year. If your number falls between two rows, your piano was built in the earlier year.

Upright piano: open the top lid and look at the cast-iron plate near the tuning pins, usually on the left or right side.
Grand piano: look on the plate near the tuning pins, under the music desk, or on the soundboard beside the plate.
It may also be stamped on the back of the case, under the keyboard, or on the keyframe — check with a flashlight.
Ignore model numbers and patent dates: the serial number is usually 4 to 7 digits long.

The year in the chart is when the piano was manufactured, not when it was first sold.
Our Sohmer records cover 1900 to 1982. If your number is outside this range, the result shows the closest year we have.
