How to play D5 on piano

  • Left hand: 5th finger on D, thumb on the 5th — or add the octave for a bigger sound.
  • Leave out the 3rd on purpose: that is what makes it a power chord.

About power chord chords

Just the root and the 5th — no 3rd, so it is neither major nor minor. On piano it gives a hollow, powerful sound in the left hand; on guitar it is the backbone of rock.
